ARTIST’S COMENTS: My time in the Caribbean on sailboats is a special experience in my memory. I picked Trinidad – Tobago as I have always been drawn to the Caribbean; the color, the light, the heart of the people has always inspired me. Trinidad is where the steel drums originated and Carnival is celebrated with great fanfare.
In researching Trinidad – hurricanes seem to avoid them and they are a great sanctuary for birds and other favorite animals. The plumes of the birds are in their costumes and dance and I have wanted to include that aspect in my project. I was surprised at their prosperity having been governed by other major countries for much of their history.
